So what If you are superstar????

Amitabh Bascchan is a name of a superstar of Indian Cinema, often termed as “sadi ke mahanayak”. People love him, respect him. Sometimes more then themselves as well. Once he was hurt, people prayed for his life. People respect not even him but his family also. He is a world known figure.

But why?? for what?? I, personally don’t find any reason behind all this. Except one that he is a hard worker and he is getting his reward. My main concern is not questioning his fame and respect. My concern is about his social and cinematic responsibility towards us. The kind of status he has been given, no one has so far given. but in return he is doing more cheap movies and advertisements for money. Except pulse polio campaign, what he has done for the people who love them so much. We have made him SUPERSTAR for doing low class cinema?? or cheap commercials?? Couldn’t he promote social programmes and awakening like Amir khan is doing in Satymev jayate?? but no. He has to clear his debt so he will have to look charming for KBC. Is Amir Khan fool?? No he is not. He is a lover of art. Amir understands that people has given him a respectful position so he has some responsibilities towards country and its people. the kind of position we have provided him, he is in better situation [than others] to do something for our well being. But Amitabh bachhan doesn’t bother about all this.

He is awarded almost in every award function for the contribution of Indian cinema. What contribution he has made so far?? Performing well as ‘angry young man’ is really a tough task?? [And that too we forget Directors contribution as well]. He is living in Maharashtra for decades, what has he done for Marathi theatre?? He belongs to UP, what has he done for the promotion of UP culture?? What kind of contribution [in any amount] he has done for the promotion of good cinema [art cinema/ social cinema]?? How many worthy movies has he done till date?? He is a good actor no doubt. So what?? There are many.

My point is simple. the position he arrived at is the position where he has ample opportunities to do for social and cinematic improvement. People will listen him most. compare to any other star. But the truth is that we have given the status of superstar and he is enjoying, taking us for granted!! I am not doubting his credential but only questioning his responsibilities for the county he is living in, for the people who love him. I am in no intention to diminish his eminence, but just want him to use his prominence for the welfare of the people. At least stop doing nonsense cinema if cant perform role of gravity.
